Gilpin County Arts Association
Located in the heart of Central City, CO. This quaint little town is just the place to for a quick day trip. Tucked away in the mountains about an hour outside of Denver. The scenic drive through the mountains to get here was probably my favorite part of the trip! The city itself is small but with lots of rustic charm. You can take a free shuttle from Black Hawk or walk the 1.5 miles up to Central City. Spent couple hours walking around. The Gilpin County Arts Association was by far my favorite place we visited. This Art Center is on par with any you’d find in larger cities. Defiantly the highlight of my time spent town.
Epic Discovery at Breckenridge
Hmmm…not sure why the negative reviews!?! Maybe folks are expecting free admission and no lines? 😂 Our experience was awesome! Arrived at 1:30 on day 1 which meant we got to take advantage of all the great rides and scenery for 4 hours on day 1, then return on day 2 for a full day of fun without having to pay a dime more! Alpine slide, coaster, Colorado chair were some of our favorites! Also played some mini golf and did the zip lines (zips were admittedly a little disappointing since we have zipped in some amazing locales). Helpful tips – bring your own water, snacks, food else be prepared for sticker shock! $5.35 for a bottled water! Yikes! Went back on day 3 and rented mountain bikes and has a blast ripping down the mountain! Best views I’ve ever had mountain biking! Only complaint is the amount of time it took to get the bikes. There was NO line but apparently they wait until a bike is rented before they do the tuneup and safety check!?! Took at least 30 minutes to get 2 bikes. Other than that highly recommended!!! South Park City Museum
Great Museum!! Took my teens and they seemed to really enjoy themselves! Love that it’s an open walkable museum because you are able to almost stand right in the past’s shoes. The employees seemed to really love their jobs and are so friendly! Went in on the 4th to be greeted by Uncle Sam! Spent an hour or more walking through and taking lots of pictures. Love the gift shop, another great employee. Felt really free to look around before really deciding what to get and left with both teens EXCITED to come back!
Argo Gold Mill and Tunnel
A historical experience of how the gold rush started, and an interactive experience of how to pan for gold! The tour is well worth it as you get to explore both the giant mill and the tunnel into the mountain. Our guide was educated and made the whole thing interesting! To pan for gold at the end was really fun! My wife and I came home with 7 gold flakes. Whether you’re a tourist to the area or a local, it’s a fun date!
